Elephant and rhino counting
As part of Sango’s commitment to the conservation of African elephants and the critically endangered black rhino, the herds on Sango have been fitted with collars to help monitor and track their movements. From time to time, one of the elephant collars used in this research needs to be replaced and we invite you to be part of this extraordinary experience.
As our guests, you will get the exclusive opportunity to participate in an event that is unique and usually not accessible for tourists. Once the elephant or rhino has been located and darted, you’ll have the unique opportunity to touch the anaesthetised elephant or rhino as they change their collar.
Our favourite camp experience: Rhino tracking on foot
Experience Sango Wildlife Conservancy on foot, in awe of its unspoilt natural beauty, and spend the morning with one of our guides and trackers in search of the rare and critically endangered Black Rhino. Walk along the same paths where the black rhino roam free and observe their lives from a careful distance. The slow pace of the walk and the interpretive skills of the armed guides will open your eyes to a new and fascinating world.
Safari tent camp with en-suite facilities
Our expedition camp, which blends harmoniously into its surroundings on the seasonal banks of the Mzaise River, accommodates six guests in three beautiful expedition tents with en-suite facilities during 1st of April till end of October. Each expedition tent is equipped with double beds which are more basic due to the concept and a small private veranda with a shaded seating area. The open plan en-suite bathroom has a bucket shower and flush toilet. You’ll enjoy your meals in our big open-sided dining tent, then gather around the campfire beneath a starry sky.
Caring for nature is in our hearts. That’s why we built Sango Expedition Camp on our love and deep connection to Zimbabwe. Part of reducing our impact on the environment and wildlife is using solar panels to power Sango’s Expedition Camp.
“There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne — bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive.”

Meet Shelby - your camp manager

And what is the most memorable moment for your guests?
The first glimpse of our camp when you get out of the truck, nobody knows exactly what the camp looks like as pictures only tell you so much. So the first look around the camp is never forgotten! You will be greeted with a warm welcome from our team to make you feel right at home. From the moment you step out of the truck, under the huge canopy of trees, you feel the excitement and pure magic that is Expeditions.

Your Sango Food & Hospitality Experience
As well as being the camp manager, Shelby is also an excellent cook and is responsible for your camp menu. Her exquisite menu offers a journey through Zimbabwean cuisine and beyond, with local recipes and traditional dishes reimagined with refined simplicity, using local produce wherever possible. In addition, her carefully curated wine list offers you a tour of South African wines to complement the experience. Meals at Sango Expedition Camp tend to be a ‘moving feast’ and are not always limited to the ‘breakfast, lunch and dinner’ of a normal safari itinerary. This does not mean that you will go hungry – far from it.
At Sango, we understand that a day in the bush whets the appetite, so it is not uncommon to have a snack breakfast on an early game drive followed by an early brunch, or a late bush breakfast followed by an early afternoon tea under a baobab tree.
